September 25,1890 – Sequoia National Park was established

The park is famous for its giant sequoia trees. One of these trees is the General Sherman tree, one of the biggest trees on Earth. It is 2,100 years old, weighs 2.7 million pounds, is 275 feet tall and has a 102-foot circumference. Why do sequoias grow so tall and so old?
